Airports

Accommodation

There is a vast range of modern accommodation, including hotels, aparthotels, inns and country guesthouses. The region has a long tradition of quality tourism in both the business and the holiday sectors and the standard of service is high.

Most 3, 4 and 5-star hotels have air conditioning, a swimming pool, a health and fitness centre, shops and other facilities. In general, the food is excellent and prices are reasonable.

In Spring and Summer it is advisable to book in advance.

 

Pets

Pets must have original documentation stating where they come from and certifying that they are in good health.

Money and Credit Cards

Almost all the Portuguese banks and many major European ones have branches in Cascais and Estoril. Currency exchange, withdrawals and bank transfers are easily done. Exhibitions

Exhibitions of painting, sculpture, tapestry, photography, etc. are held in the area’s numerous private galleries as well as at the Estoril Casino, the Cascais Cultural Centre and at local town council galleries.

Tour guides speaking a wide range of languages are readily available. Contact your hotel reception, a tourist bureau or the Lisbon Tour Guide and Interpreters Union (Tel: 21 346 71 70).

 

Opening Hours:

Banks: Monday – Friday from 8.30 – 15h.

Shops: Monday – Friday from 9 – 13h and 15 – 19h. Many shops close on Saturdays at 13h.

Major supermarkets and shopping centres are open every day from 10.00 – 23h.

Pharmacies: Monday – Friday from 9 – 13h and 15 – 19h. Saturdays from 9 – 13h. There is an out of hours rota with two pharmacies in each area open. Ask your hotel reception for details or consult the rota on display at any pharmacy.

Public Services and Utilities: Monday – Friday from 9.30 – 12h and from 14 – 17.30h.

 

Lost Property

Contact the police station. For property lost on trains contact the nearest station (800 203 067/21 342 4780). If you lose anyhing on a bus phone the public relations department of the bus company (214699145).
If you leave property in a taxi, call the public relations department of the taxi service (21 465 9500).

Church Services

There are daily services in the parish churches of Cascais, Estoril, Parede, Alcabideche, S. Domingos de Rana and Carcavelos.

There is a service in English on Sunday at 12h in the Chapel of St. Sebastian, Cascais or at 9:30 in the Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Estoril.
